Every note in the Major Scale has a unique Scale Degree. There's a few ways to label scale degrees. By number, name, Roman numeral and something called Solfege.
Since we are already familiar with numbers, using numbers for scale degrees makes the most sense for now. Let's write a number under each note in this major scale starting on one. The last note has the same note name as the first. It's the octave where the musical alphabet starts over. Just like the specific sequence of whole steps and half steps are the same in every major scale, scale degrees are also the same in every major scale.
